January weather
Although it can be very cold during January in Madrid, it is also rather dry. January weather is very refreshing to both tourists and natives. During this winter month, you will be looking at highs up to about 49⁰F (9⁰C), and lows around 34⁰F (1⁰C). Luckily for the visitor, these lows do not get below freezing! This is the perfect place to go to just cool down a little bit and enjoy the charming indoors of Madrid’s hotels and cafes.
What should I wear?
You should definitely bring a jacket, scarf and a nice big sweater to keep you looking good while keeping warm. You may want to consider brining an umbrella in case you get some icy rain, which is possible during January. Heating is not guaranteed in some hotels, so make sure you are well equipped with warm blankets (if you have extra room in your suitcase) and thick pajamas.
Madrid is full of great activities, even during this cold month. Anywhere from simply sitting in a nice Jacuzzi in an old world charming hotel, to running about the (not-so-alive) grass playing a game of rugby! For those from a hot climate, this is the best month to come to Madrid for a nice change in weather and cultural getaway!
