Survive as a backpacker

Happy backpacker.
Hostel accommodation

There are some excellent hostels in Madrid where you can stay for around €15 a night. It is often cheaper if you book online however and there are some good deals to be had if you have a few days in advance to plan your trip. There are also a number of youth hostels in and around the city that have both dorm and family rooms, some ensuite. Prices start at around €5 if you are prepared to share.

Tapas

One of the cheapest ways to eat in Madrid is Tapas. Many bars in the city will serve these little plates of meat, fish and vegetables during the early evening. No charge to customers, but save your pennies for a couple of glasses of house red. If you are looking for lunch, one of the best places to start is El Mercado de San Miguel. This is an undercover market packed with kiosks selling food of all sorts. You can pick up a sandwich for €1, so it’s definitely one of the cheapest places to find something to eat.

Soaking up the sights

Seeing the sights in Madrid couldn’t be better for backpackers. Most of the museums and historical buildings are free to enter. The Spanish are very proud of their history and there is a lot of culture to take in including flamenco dancing and bull fighting.  During the day the public parks in the city often have events and exhibitions that you can browse for free. If you are out at night many of the clubs hand out free flyers and tickets in the neighbouring streets for a free or reduced price. The Heurtas area in particular has some excellent clubs with a diverse range of music. Good advice is to look out for where the local students go, they have discerning taste.

I have been offered an accomodation for 16$ (sharing) per day by the company.
    APARTMENTS FLORIDA SUITES
    C/ Campezo, 2 – P.I. Las Mercedes
    28042 – Madrid.

I am sure there might be some place near by offering cheaper prices. I have my course for 75 days.

I want to know a hostel or apartment near by to my training center and some food joint.

  2. The price you have been quoted is quite good if your apartment includes living room, kitchen facilities and bathroom.

If you only want a bed to sleep in you may be able to find something cheaper. But even hostels don’t often sell their beds for less than €10 / $14 a night.

If you look at Madrid Craigslist’s longterm rental you may find something cheaper.
