How cheap is it to eat in Madrid?

Madrid has plenty of decently priced food available around town. At a tapas bar you can have a tapas snack for €1-2.

If you head for a “real” restaurant you must expect to pay €15-20 for a steak meal and €10-15 for a bottle of house wine. Two persons sharing the wine and ordering one meal each must expect a bill close to €50.

Tapas bars and more informal restaurants have many tapas dishes for €3-4. Or alternatively, you can order a raciones, which is a full tapas dish expected to fill your stomach for lunch. These are typically priced at around €8-10. A small beer at a place like this will cost you €2-3.

At a supermarket you can buy serrano ham, baguettes, beer for less than €10 and have a nice meal in a park.
