Madrid is both the largest city and the capitol of Spain in addition to being the capitol of a community also called Madrid. Currently the population in the city is 3,228,000 and in the metro area it is 5,843,000. These figures were last updated in July of 2005. Located northeast of the Iberian Peninsula and in the center of the Spanish central Castilian Plateau, Madrid is home to the El Prado Museum, which is just one example of its rich background in arts and culture. Best Weather

Climatic conditions are a bit on the extreme side in the city of Madrid. It’s mostly dry, sometimes to the extreme but when it’s wet, it’s wet and rains occur mostly in early spring and again in autumn. There’s some rain during April may and June, but only just enough to prevent extreme dryness, which would make spring the best time to visit Madrid. Summer is always hot, dry and sunny but at times it can be too hot, which is typically characteristic of a continental climate. Another thing to be noted about Madrid’s climate is that it does not always snow in Madrid. Sometimes there is no snow fall in the city at all, however there’s always snowfall on the nearby mountain ranges. If you’ve never been there, you can only imagine how beautiful it is to look at. 

Try not to miss

While in Madrid you want to make the time to visit as many of their monumental museums as you can. With a history so rich in culture there’s much to be seen and experienced. Other places of interest include; Palicio Real, this is actually a royal palace where two stories of medieval weapons are kept. There are also plazas making up the historical landscape of Madrid, the most famous of which is Plaza Mayor, an impressive tourist attraction which, was originally built outsides the city walls. To date, many events have been hosted here including; executions, symphonies, markets and bullfights. Mention must also be made of Atocha Renfe, possibly the only train station in the world that can boast an indoor Garden complete with turtles in a pond.

Longest queues

There are so many different options in terms of attractions to grab one’s fancy while in Madrid.

Historical land marks, pubs, museums, plazas, the opera, the symphony and the list goes on. With so many options to choose from there’s no need to spend a lot of time in queues at all. Most of Madrid’s attractions are year-round so that one can enjoy sights and attractions at anytime during the year without the long queues. 
 

Cheapest months to visit

As with any other vacation destinations, the off season tends to offer further discounts. Madrid’s off season would naturally be in the winter season as it is the time of year that tourists are least likely to visit. At this time of year, everything is cheaper.
